Android 7.0 update status for Samsung Galaxy devices: Here’s the confirmed list

Samsung has finally published the confirmed list of Galaxy smartphones and tablets that will be getting the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update by June 2017. Although Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been the first of the devices to start receiving the Nougat OTA update in Europe, a recent post on the company's global site confirms that the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 are also in the privileged list, among several other devices.

The South Korean company has revealed its plans to expand the release of Nougat update for a spate of devices within first-half of the year, wherein the confirmed list of supported devices are listed as follows:

  • Galaxy S7
  • Galaxy S7 Edge
  • Galaxy S6
  • Galaxy S6 Edge
  • Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
  • Galaxy Tab A with S Pen
  • Galaxy Tab S2 (LTE unlocked version)
  • Galaxy Note 5
  • Galaxy A3
  • Galaxy A8

With Samsung aiming to prioritise its Nougat rollout for flagship or premium handsets, it is almost certain that the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus are next in line to receive the Android 7.0 upgrade. If there is any truth to the ensuing rumours, we are certain to see the S6 handsets getting the update by February end.

Galaxy Note 5 has an estimated release date set for April, while the 2016 editions of Galaxy A3 and A8 will get it by Q2 2017. Furthermore, the Galaxy A5 and A7 are likely to embrace the Nougat upgrade in Q3.

On the other hand, the 2017 edition of Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 do not have a precise release date as some of these models are not yet shipped globally. So, it is a safe bet to say that they will get the Nougat update by the end of Q2 2017.

A similar feat is expected with Samsung's C-series of handsets including Galaxy C7 Pro, C9 Pro and the forthcoming C5 Pro.

The S-Pen version of Galaxy Tab A is destined to get the Android 7.0 update in the first-half of the year while there is no word on the non S-Pen edition, which is deemed to get the update some time in Q3 this year.

The Nougat upgrade for the unlocked (LTE) Galaxy Tab S2 has a confirmed release date set for Q2 2017.
