Voice singer Christina Grimmie shot dead after concert in Orlando

The former Voice contestant Grimmie was signing autographs when a gunman shot her dead.

The Voice singer Christina Grimmie was shot dead early on Saturday outside a Florida concert venue.

A gunman opened fire as Grimmie was signing autographs after the concert killing the 22-year-old singer who gained fame after competing on the US television programme 'The Voice'.

The Orlando Police Department said on Twitter that after the concert ended at 10 pm Grimmie was signing autographs with band members of 'Before You Exit' when a gunman approached and opened fire before her brother tackled him at the Plaza Live music venue.

The authorities said that the gunman then shot and killed himself.

"With deep regret, we have confirmed Christina Grimmie has died from her injuries," police said.

The gunman was not identified and the police have not said why he attacked the singer. An investigation is ongoing to find out the reason behind the murder.

Grimmie was placed third on Season 6 of "The Voice." She was discovered on YouTube where she has a massive fan follower.

The show expressed grief and said, "We are heartbroken".
