PlayStation Network breach secures 10th rank in biggest data breaches of all time

Sony's PlayStation Network had experienced one of the largest data breaches in history after 77m of its gamers' personal information was leaked.

In April 2011, the PlayStation Network had experienced one of the largest data breaches in history after 77m of its gamers' personal information was leaked. Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc ended up in 2014 paying US$15 million as a preliminary settlement in a class action lawsuit. The event landed Sony's PlayStation Network in the 10th place for the biggest data breaches of all time.

As of April 2017, PlayStation Network has made it to the Top 10 Biggest Data Breaches of All Time. Names, business and home addresses, e-mails, birth dates and possibly credit card details were leaked in what was dubbed as the largest-ever Internet security break-ins.

Yahoo tops the list with 1b user accounts compromised in 2013 which was followed in 2014 with 500m accounts impacted. River City Media closely follows at second place with 1.3b. Below is the complete top 10 list:

Recently, cable TV network HBO sought the help of the US Federal Bureau Investigation and cyber security firm Mandiant for losing an estimated 1.5 terabytes of data, including thousands of internal company documents, personal information of a senior executive and the un-aired episodes of Games of Thrones season 7.

On 24 July, Anthem had been involved in data breach for the second time, affecting more than 18,000 Medicare enrollees and losing their personal health information.
