In the smartphone race where screen bezels continue to become thinner to almost nothing over the last few years, Sony Electronics Inc seemed to be unfazed amidst the ever-changing industry standards. The tech behemoth released a couple of Xperia phones in 2017 and all of them sports Sony's signature chunky bezels.
Back in September, Sony India managing director Kenichiro Hibi was quoted saying they "are planning to launch a new generation of products" and consumers "can expect a completely new design from the devices". Then speculations began swirling that the company is working on something fresh, much like a redesign of its products.

Smartphones rocking slimmer bezels became the most popular bet in the Sony Xperia community. Both critics and fans believe the company has long been overdue when it comes to the thin bezels design, with Apple Inc, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, LG Electronics, Huawei and other smartphone manufacturers already doing it in 2017 and even in the previous years.
An image of what was purported to be the Xperia XZ2 phone was leaked by TechieState on Sunday, December 2. A fullscreen glass display can be seen in the photo with the top kept with a little space to accommodate the camera, speaker and light sensors.

In November, a render for Sony's unnamed smartphones made by a fan came out through Reddit. User Piastagvo presented three different photos of the "device in question" sitting beside older Xperia phones for comparison.
The designer, however, has retained Sony's chunky top and bottom bezels, only a little thinner, while sides have been slimmed down. Piastagvo's design is based on prior leaked dimensions.
The information about Sony Xperia XZ2 specifications and announcement date are scarce at the moment. Nevertheless, two variants have already made rounds, suggesting that one will have a 5.7-inch 4K display while the other will have a 5.48-inch full HD display.
