Overview

Manchester United host Leicester City in the 2016/17 Premier League clash at Old Trafford on 24 September.

The hosts got back to winning ways in the EFL Cup third round tie against Northampton Town after losing three straight games in a span of nine days.

Jose Mourinho's men, who kicked off their campaign in style, winning three Premier League games on the trot, suffered the slump when they lost their derby clash against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. Their Europa League campaign got off to a poor start as they lost to Dutch side Feyenoord. Defeat to Watford last Sunday added to the side's woes.

On Saturday, United will look to get back to winning ways in the league. The hosts will miss Anthony Martial and Phil Jones as both of them have been sidelined due to injuries. Meanwhile, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Luke Shaw are available for selection.

Wayne Rooney's place in the side has come under heavy scrutiny following the United captain's inability to contribute with goals. In seven appearances this season, the England international has found the back of the net only once.

Whether or not Mourinho will play the 30-year-old in Saturday's clash remains to be seen. Notably, Rooney played the full 90 minutes at Northampton unlike the other team regulars.

On the other hand, Leicester have been ordinary in their away league games losing at Hull City and Liverpool this season. After having a poor start to their campaign, they bounced back with a 3-0 thrashing of Club Brugge in their Champions League encounter.

The 3-0 win against Burnley in their last league outing should give confidence to Claudio Ranieri's men at Old Trafford. The visitors' new-signing Islam Slimani impressed on his debut by scoring a brace. His combination with Jamie Vardy upfront might cause headaches for United's backline.

Leicester are likely to miss the services of their keeper Kasper Schmeichel and midfielder Nampalys Mendy because of injuries. Defender Marcin Wasilewski will also be out of action after the red card he picked up during his side's EFL Cup defeat to Chelsea.

Ranieri had insisted that his side would be gunning to avenge their Community Shield loss to United on Saturday. A win at Old Trafford will take them to the upper-half of the league table and put them back on track in their title defense.
