Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo explains why he decided against going on summer holiday

Sheyi Ojo was part of England squad in the Under-19 European championship.

Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo has revealed that he turned down a chance to go on a holiday in order to join Jurgen Klopp for the Reds' pre-season tour. The Premier League club registered a 2-0 victory over AC Milan in America and the teenager was one of the star players for his side.

The 19-year-old was part of England Under-19 squad during the Uefa Euro 2016 Under-19 championship. The Young Lions suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Italy in the semi-final on 21 July.

Just four days after the Under-19 European championship, Ojo joined his club teammates in America as the winger wanted to impress the former Borussia Dortmund manager. He even admitted that Klopp was keen on providing him some time off, but he decided against taking it as he wanted to be a part of Liverpool's pre-season squad.

"Yeah, he asked me if I wanted some time off after the Euros but I said I wanted to come straight here," Ojo explained, as quoted by Goal.com.

"I was keen to be out here. We agreed I'd just have a couple of days off but it wasn't really time off because it's a long flight to get here! I wanted to be part of this. I'm not too fussed about a holiday, I just want to kick on.

"After the end of the season we were working hard in the lead up to the Euros with a training camp. It all paid off. The Euros were a great experience and I'm feeling fit now.

"This is definitely best for my development. I wanted to be part of this pre-season tour, even if it meant cutting my time off short. It's been a good experience to be back with the team."
