Korean idol groups EXO and BTS, and solo artists IU and Park Hyo Shin bagged the grand prizes, or "daesang," at the 2017 Melon Music Awards held on December 2 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

The awards were given out based on artists' performance and rankings on Melon, a Korean music download site, as well as votes and judges' scores.

According to Melon, the Top 10 Artists for the year are BTS, Big Bang, Wanna One, EXO, Winner, Red Velvet, TWICE, IU, Heize and Bolbbalgan4.

IU's "Palette" was adjudged as the Best Album of the Year. She also took home the Best Songwriter award.

EXO won the Best Artist of the Year award along with Best Male Dance Award, Top 10 Artist and Netizens' Choice. EXO member and Dynamic Duo won the Best Rap/Hip Hop award.

BTS bagged four awards. They won the Best Song of the Year for "Spring Day," Top 10 Artist, Global Artist Award and Best Music Video for "DNA." Meanwhile, Suga and Suran grabbed the Hot Trend award for "Wine."

Legendary singer Park Hyo Shin was awarded the Stage of the Year for "I Am a Dreamer" based on ticket sales, judges' score and votes.

At the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Hong Kong, BTS won the Artist of the Year while EXO won the Album of the Year.

But the MAMA didn't sit well with EXO-Ls, or EXO fans. They filed a petition with the Blue House, or the Korean presidential office, to abolish MAMA claiming that EXO should have won the Artist of the Year and Best Male Group, which were won by BTS and Wanna One, respectively. Some fans also claimed that they were unfairly treated by security personnel at the MAMA venue in Hong Kong.
