Conor McGregor made light work of Eddie Alvarez on Saturday to become the first fighter in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) history to hold two titles in different weight categories simultaneously.

The Irishman, who is also the UFC featherweight champion, was at his best at the Madison Square Garden in the main event of UFC 205. He just needed two rounds to secure a knockout victory as well as the lightweight belt.

Notably, McGregor dropped the Philadelphia fighter to the mat three times in the first round. The fan favourite in New York even taunted Alvarez by keeping his hands behind the back before pushing him to the ground in the second round.

Ducking away from an attack, McGregor landed a series of blows with his famous left hand to finish the match halfway through the second round. Alvarez looked jaded and had no answers to the masterclass from McGregor.

"They are not on my level. He [Alvarez] should not have been in here with me," an elated McGregor, who celebrated by holding the Irish flag, was quoted as saying by The Sun.
