At least nine people were killed and several were injured after an operation platform collapsed at a power plant in China on Saturday morning, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Xinhua cited sources with the local government and said the accident, in the southern province of Guangdong, happened at the No. 7 Thermal Power Plant in the provincial capital, Guangzhou. The plant is still under construction.

The authorities said that the government has launched an investigation.
