Canadian singer, songwriter and producer, 'The Weeknd' who was expected to be on stage at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards failed to turn up at the event, held on Aug.27. Being on the road most of the time and travelling for all his tours, seems to have taken a toll on his health.

World tours and performances are exhausting, causing many celebrities to even cancel most of the award shows and functions due to their ill health.

One of Weeknd's private shows, partnered with his sponsor Grey Goose Vodka was shut down, due to "unforeseen production issues" mentioned in an email released by them.

The artist was nominated in five different categories, Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Direction. He was also set to perform on stage but sadly did not show up.

Earlier this August, Weeknd announced that his album "Beauty behind the madness" continued to be on the billboard on 200 for 100 consecutive weeks. Interestingly his alleged girlfriend Selena Gomez, gave the show a miss as well.

Celebrity couple Selena Gomez and the Weeknd seem to be going strong, as he flew down from Paris, to celebrate her 25th Birthday in July this year.

Following the release of Gomez's latest single, 'Fetish', and the leaked track 'Stained' on July 13, fans are now freaking out at how heavily her boyfriend influences her new style of music.

This little help from her better half on her music was essential to recreate ripples in Gomez's professional career .

The VMAs went on as planned, with the crowd enjoying the performances by Katy Perry, DJ Khaled, Miley Cyrus and Lorde to name a few.

This "Starboy" Artist, having a huge fan following might have missed the VMAs but his absence might not really make a dent to his career or fandom.
