Kyuhyun, the youngest member of Korean boy band Super Junior, has started his military service, a mandatory duty for all qualified Korean men.

On May 25 he entered the Nonsan Army Training Center in South Chungcheong province in South Korea for his four weeks of basic military training.

Hundreds of Super Junior fans waited for him outside the camp holding banners to bid him goodbye.

Before he enlisted, he bid farewell to his fans on Twitter by posting his photo with short hair.

"Can't get used to this. Don't be sick, don't cry and stay well! Until we meet again, good bye for now," he tweeted, according to Yonhap News.

Upon completion of the basic training, Kyuhyun will start his duty as public service worker. He was exempted from serving in the active duty due to injuries he suffered in an accident in 2007.

The car accident happened in April 19, 2007, just a year after he was added as the last member of Super Junior in 2006.

He was traveling in a vehicle with fellow members Shindong, Leeteuk and Eunhyuk and managers when the car hit a guard rail.

As a result, Kyuhyun was hospitalized for more than two months and suffered punctured lungs, broken hip and ribs.

A day before he enlisted, Kyuhyun released the song "Goodbye for Now." SM Entertainment, Super Junior's agency, also uploaded a music video about Kyuhyun.

He also finished recording his last episode before enlistment for the TV talk show "Radio Star," where he has served as one of the emcees since October 2011.

Kyuhyun also held a fan meeting on May 20 at Kyunghee University in Seoul.

Among the members of Super Junior, those who have already completed their military service are Leeteuk, Heechul, Kangin, Yesung, Shindong and Sungmin.

Siwon, Donghae and Eunhyuk will be discharged from the army this year while Ryeowook enlisted last October.

Kyuhyun will finish his military service in May 2019.
