Spider-Man tops Korean box office for 5th straight day

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" continued its domination of the Korean box office and set records. The Hollywood movie starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker has so far grossed $25.64 million and sold 3.56 million tickets in just five days since its opening on July 5 to July 9, capturing an average revenue share of at least 80 percent, according to data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

With this, it became the fastest movie in Korea this year to breach the 3 million mark.

The movie got its biggest audience on July 8 when 1.09 million people watched it with a seat occupancy rate of 56.5 percent.

For the weekend box office from July 7 to 9, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" earned $19.14 million with total admission of 2.6 million moviegoers and revenue share of 82.74 percent.

South Korea's "Anarchist from Colony" came second with $2.38 million in gross and 328,100 in attendance. The movie has so far earned $12.36 million since its opening on June 28.

"Transformers: The Last Knight," which opened on June 21, placed third with $476,929 for a total gross of $18.39 million.

"Okja" finished fourth with $352,627 for a total gross of $1.42 million since June 29.

Kim Soo Hyun's movie "Real" earned $104,606 to place fifth. The film has struggled after it opened on June 28. It has sold only 448,345 tickets since opening and its revenue share for the weekend box office was only 0.45 percent, becoming a certified flop in Korea.

The R-rated film has been fighting leaks as the nude scenes between Sulli and Kim Soo Hyun have been circulating online.
