Sony PS4 continues to dominate the market over Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Xbox One

Sony has sold more than 60 millions of PS4s in the first quarter of the financial year

Sony's PlayStation 4 is still dominating the market and selling more units than Microsoft's Xbox One and Nintendo's Switch. As the company reported, Sony has sold a whopping 63.3 million units of PlayStation 4 as of June 30, which puts the company miles ahead of the other contenders.

To be specific, Sony has sold more than double PS4 units than what Microsoft Xbox One could manage and Xbox One is the closest competition to Sony PS4. Although Microsoft doesn't disclose sales numbers of Xbox One, the average estimate put it somewhere in the realm of 30 million units sold, as per Business Insider.

Sony has sold 3.3 million units of PS4 alone from April 1 to June 30 and on the other hand, Ninendo Switch has sold a total of 4.7 million units in its entire lifespan from March 1 to June 30.

Sony is expecting that the company will be able to manage a total sell of millions PS4s by the end of this financial year.

Several factors added to the success of Sony PlayStation 4, such as:

  • PS4 was a less expensive console, when it was launched in 2013. It cost $100 less than Microsoft's Xbox One.
  • PS4 is quite an attractive gaming console in terms of its looks and also people use it more than a game console as a snap.
  • Blockbuster titles were definitely one of the main reasons behind PS4's grand success. Games like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Horizon Zero Dawn and Bloodborne, made the PlayStation 4 a must-have console.
  • And lastly, indeed, PS4 captured the position of being "the" gaming console to own if you are at all going to buy one.
