Sony Music Entertainment's Twitter account published a series of tweets on Monday saying that iconic pop music icon Britney Spears is dead. Fans and fellow celebrities were stunned to see the news.

Sony Music Global Twitter account published a short message reading "RIP @britneyspears" "RIPBritney 1981-2016", and "Britney spears is dead by accident! We will tell you more soon #RIPBritney" along with a teary-eyed emoji. However, the tweets were soon removed. Sony Music, a unit of Sony Corp, later issued a press statement stating that their twitter page was hacked. They clarified that the issue is resolved and apologized to Britney and fans for creating the confusion.

Well, the drama didn't end there. Sony also revealed that along with their account, the handle of folk music icon Bob Dylan was also hacked. It featured a tweet; "Rest in peace @britneyspears". A few days back, the twitter page of Netflix US and Marvel Entertainment was also hacked.

Meanwhile, Britney's manager Adam Leber told CNN that the singer is healthy. He said that Sony's music page was hacked and Britney has been the victim of a series of hoax news in her career. He further stated that such situations are unavoidable for celebrities. However, this is the first time a death hoax was published from a verified social handle.

In Nov 2014, North Korean hackers hacked the official twitter page of Sony Pictures International revealing confidential data. The incident took place just a month before the release of their controversial film "The Interview" that narrated the story of two South Korea journalist who are trained by CIA to kill the North Korean leader.

Meanwhile, along with her death hoax, her love life is also making headlines. The Glory singer posted Instagram moments with rumoured boyfriend Sam Asghari, model and personal trainer. In a video, the couple was happily singing Christmas carols. According to news.com.au, the couple was first linked in November when Asghari posted a photo on Instagram of a romantic dinner date with the pop star.
