Shaping the future of the children and youth makes a nation wealthy. Consumers in Singapore support the development of children's education, followed by the elimination of poverty and starvation.

MasterCard's survey found that 24.4% of the respondents pledged their support for children's welfare. Although this is lower than the 37.8% of respondents in the Asia-Pacific region, and happens to be a further drop from 27.2% in 2015.

"Most Singaporeans would come from small families and invest a lot into children, hence having a natural affinity to children's causes is understandable," says Mr.Gerard Ee, Chairman of the Charities Council.

He further added, that the sector concerning child development has always been popular, which reflects in the retail industry as well.

Over all, the support for serious illnesses was at 22.5%, which is the exact same figure of respondents for the elimination of poverty and starvation.

The Singapore survey polled a total of 500 respondents aged between 18 to 64. However the results of the survey conducted in November had lesser number of people donating to charity.

59.4% included those who contributed to charity in 2014, followed by 54.9% in 2015 and 54.6% in 2016.

Less than half of the Singapore respondents also bought items to help donate the collected amount to a good cause. 33.3% of Singapore respondents placed this as their reason, compared to the 44.4% coming from Asia-Pacific.

Every donation is made calculatively keeping in mind the structure of the economy. Since the economy has not been at its best a drop in donation is admissible.
