The Land Transport Authority has decided to deploy traffic marshals and additional direction signs on the inauguration day of the Tuas Viaduct, which is scheduled to be on 18 February, to ensure safety along the route. The viaduct, which will be linking Tuas South Avenue 3 to Tuas Road, is the first in Singapore to integrate both road and rail components.

In a press release, LTA said that the viaduct will have five ramps -- two up-ramps and three down-ramps and will provide an alternate route to Tuas South. It is expected that the viaduct will enhance transport connectivity as motorists can bypass Pioneer Road.

"Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance and follow the directional signs and traffic wardens on site to help them navigate to their destinations," said the agency, according to Channel News Asia. LTA's YouTube page has also uploaded video guides on the key travel routes.

The statutory board also stressed that bicycles, electric bicycles and personal mobility devices (PMDs) are not allowed on the Tuas Viaduct.

The viaduct was built over five years at a budget of S$3.5 billion and it is expected to expand till the Tuas West MRT extension in the second quarter of this year. LTA's director of the Tuas West Extension project, Andrew Yap, said incorporating road-and-rail components in the same structure was the key challenge of the project. "This integrated structure includes close to 100 columns. Each of the columns is designed to withstand up to 13,000 tonnes loading," said Yap, according to reports.
