Singapore electricity tariffs to rise in the next three months

Singapore Power services says electricity tariffs will increase by an average of 9.2 per cent or 1.59 cents per kWh from July 1 to Sep 30.

The electricity tariffs in Singapore will rise for the next three months due to an increase in the cost of natural gas for electricity generation.

The Singapore Power Services said that compared to the previous quarter, the electricity tariffs will increase by an average of 9.2 per cent or 1.59 cents per kWh from July 1 to Sep 30.

In the case of households, the tariff will increase from 17.68 to 19.27 cents per kWh. According to the estimation, the average monthly electricity bill for families living in Housing Board flats will increase by $6.79.

The Associated Press reported that the Singapore Power Services said the cost of natural gas for electricity generation rose by 26 per cent compared to the second quarter of the year and hence the electricity tariffs also increased.

However, this was partly offset by lower non-fuel costs.
