Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) announced that the January's edition of Car-Free Sunday SG, usually held on last weekend of each month, has been advanced by a week due to the Chinese New Year holidays and will be organised on the upcoming Sunday.

In a news release, URA said a variety of recreational and community activities have been organized due to the festive season. It will coincide with the Chinese New Year celebrations in the Chinatown district.

The Singapore Hok San Association, which is Singapore's first lion dance troupe, will perform lion dance and drum performances at those festivities. Members of the public will also get a chance to try their hands at playing the drums or putting on the lion head to learn some dance moves.

Apart from this, the Singapore Cycling Federation and Cycosports will jointly organize a cycling carnival in January featuring a series of races between different cycling groups in Singapore. The carnival will be held from 6 am to 7.30 am along Robinson Road and Cecil Street.

A community ride will be held for the public from Cecil Street to Civic District at 7.30 am. It will end at the National Gallery, in time for the flag off of Car-Free Sunday at 8 am. The URA officials said the cycling carnival will be a regular feature at future editions of Car-Free Sunday. The Jan 22 carnival will also have the popular trishaw service back.

The other activities will include a farmers' market along the Esplanade Park with more stalls offering local and organic produce. It will be twice as big at the upcoming Car-Free Sunday.

URA also added that the January's event will see more fully-closed roads, creating more cycling and jogging lanes for participants. On Sunday morning, the roads in the Civic District will be closed. The members of the public are requested to visit the official URA website to find out more about the event.
