Singapore bound Tigerair flight makes unscheduled landing in Vietnam

Flight TR2993 was scheduled to land in Singapore at 6.55pm after taking off from took off from Taipei at 1.55pm.

A flight with 163 passengers bound for Singapore from Taipei was diverted towards Vietnam and it made an unscheduled landing in Ho Chi Minh City on 6 January after a burning smell emerged from the cabin.

According to Internet flight-tracking service FlightAware, Flight TR2993 was scheduled to land in Singapore at 6.55pm (SGT) after taking off from took off from Taipei at 1.55pm. However, it made the landing in Tan Son Nhat International at 4.48pm.

The flight underwent a thorough inspection by engineers and it was found out that a faulty fan in the aircraft's ventilation system caused the burning smell.

"We have deployed a ferry flight to bring guests back to Singapore from Ho Chin Minh City in the early morning of Jan 7 (Saturday). Refreshments have been provided to the affected guests in Ho Chi Minh City," said Tigerair in a statement, according to The Straits Times.

"We would like to clarify that there was no fire in the aircraft and the incident was not caused by an engine issue," he added.

A passenger also sent a video to The Straits Times where the pilot is seen assuring the passengers that they will reach Singapore safely.
