Singapore: 41-year-old woman dies in car accident at Jurong West, driver arrested

The police says that the investigations are going on.

A 41-year-old woman, who was knocked down by a car on Friday, has died in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, the authorities said. The police have arrested the 27-year-old male driver was arrested for causing death by a negligent act.

According to reports, the accident took place on Friday morning in Jurong West Street 42, towards Jurong West Street 52. The police said that they were informed about the incident at about 8.10 am.

The victim, who has been identified as Serene Ng, is believed to have been crossing the road and heading towards Block 401 when she was hit by the car. Reports said that there are no pedestrian crossings at the site of the accident.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the nearest zebra crossing is about 100m away, while a new traffic junction is being built. The daily also quoted the victim's sister-in-law, who gave her name as Fu, as saying that Ng was returning home after doing volunteer work on her day off. She said that Ng was a civil servant who was unmarried and lived with her family.

"I walked past the accident site around 9am, I heard there was a car accident but didn't know it was my sister-in-law," the 29-year-old Fu added.

Fu also said that she saw a gold-coloured car parked by the road, with its front badly damaged. The police said that the investigations are going on.
