American actress Scarlett Johansson filed for divorce from her husband Romain Dauriac on Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court. The Lucy star has asked for primary custody of their daughter, Rose, so a custody fight be well expected.

After two years of marriage, the couple decided to part their ways and separated last summer. The 32-year old actress told close friends that she was separating from Dauriac, because she did not share much in common with him.

The actress was spotted without her wedding ring when she appeared at the Women's March on Washington event in January. A source told People magazine: "I've been expecting this [the split] for some time. Romain and Scarlett have never made sense to me."

The source further added: "They aren't equals. There's always been something wrong with this picture."

According to the reports, the couple decided to part ways amicably and they still share the popcorn brand Yummy Pop's ownership. Moreover, they have also been spotted together on multiple occasions at various events even after the news of their split broke out in January.

However, the recent reports of Johansson wishing to have primary custody of their daughter, could possibly lead to a nasty court battle. Their three-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy Dauriac was born in September 2014, just a few weeks before their wedding.

Reportedly, following their separation in January both agreed on spending every other week with their daughter.

However, the main fight began after Johansson demanded a shorter schedule where she could spend time with Rose for about three days and Dauriac can spend some time with her for the next few days. This did not go well with Dauriac who protested saying that he cannot organize his life according to Johansson's schedule who was about to move to New Zealand for filming her movie "Ghost" and therefore demanded the said schedule, Page Six reported.

The source said: "The kid was bouncing back and forth." Further added saying, "It can't work because [Johansson] travels so much."

"He would like to move to France with his daughter, and Ms. Johansson does a lot of traveling," Dauriac's lawyer, Harold Mayerson, said, according to Page Six.

When the actress talked with ET last month she said: "I don't profess to know anything about parenting, anything more than anybody else, [but] being a working mom is an incredible challenge, [and] it's an incredible gift."

She continued: "I think you always feel a little bit of guilt. If you're at work, you feel like you're missing out on those special moments with your kid. If you're with your kid, you feel like you're not giving enough to your job. It's a balance."
