When fingerprint scanners first appeared in the smartphones, it was a cutting edge technology but now it is considered seriously inadequate. At least, that's what Samsung feels about them anyways. A new rumour that is now doing the rounds in the market is that Samsung is slowly on its way to phase out fingerprint scanners from its phone to bring about more advanced iris scanners, marking the next step in smartphone evolution.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had also suggested that there might be a possibility of iPhone having a front camera with a technology that may lead to the firm ultimately let go of its fingerprint scanners.

There is a lot of speculation that is doing rounds with Apple's 10th anniversary phone and this a big one among them. Moreover, we can safely ascertain if this type of recognition technology is adapted by Apple, it won't take long for other smartphone makers to drop fingerprint scanners and take face detection technology as the new norm.

As for Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are both equipped with finger print scanning technology and iris scanning technology. According to reports, the fingerprint scanner was more of a necessity rather than choice, as the iris scanners in their initial run had a lag and, therefore, Samsung couldn't rely only on this method to release their comeback phone after the Galaxy7 debacle.

However, Samsung looks serious about this technology and what it could mean for the future of smartphones. A recent tweet which was noticed by Phonearena from a user in China, said that one Samsung staff had said, "We will kill the fingerprint, it's Obsolete."
