Filmmaker Roman Polanski is being investigated again for new accusations of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old child in 1975.

While the statute of limitations has long expired, through this investigation, law enforcement officials may be able to use any evidence they collect to help prosecute other cases, reports pagesix.com.

Authorities are now probing the case because Los Angeles detectives "will always take a report from any victim and then determine if the case is within the statute of limitations," police spokesman Josh Rubenstein said.

Polanski, 84, has been a fugitive since he fled to France in 1978 on the eve of sentencing in an unrelated case for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. He splits his time between France, his native Poland and Switzerland.

It hasn't been long since cases surrounding rape and sexual assaults where well-known figures from Hollywood were blamed. It all began with Harvey Weinstein which led all the victims to pile up their courage and speak publicly of his misdeeds. The #MeToo campaign was also born out of this and took social media by storm. Not only Weinstein, actors like Kevin Spacey, Danny Masterson, Andy Dick, Charlie Rose and others have also been blamed for the same. In fact, the list seems to be neverending.

Fans of these personalities have expressed their disgust and how extremely shameful they feel. Consequences of this act conducted by the who's who of Hollywood hasn't been favourable for them. Spacey, for example, has been fired from the House of Cards and other projects that were lined up for him, Andy Dick has been fired from all films and Charlie Rose by CBS. Bloomberg and PBS canceled distribution of his interview show.
