North Koreans stage massive rally to denounce latest UN sanctions

Thousands of North Koreans staged a massive demonstration in Pyongyang on Wednesday (9 August), denouncing the latest UN sanctions against the Kim Jong-un regime. In a unanimous vote on 5 August, the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council slapped new sanctions on Pyongyang after it launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) in July. The sanctions will see the reclusive states $3bn (£2.3bn) annual export revenue being slashed by a third.
