New PD of Running Man reveals the fate of the show

Running Man is one of the currently longest-running variety program in South Korean history.

Kim Joo Hyung revealed that the most popular variety game show, Running Man, has limitations in the long running. The new producing director, who became the main PD of the show on July 3, stated that they won't be playing the game in the exactly same way.

On 31st July, Joo Hyung sat for the interview with the media to talk about his future plans for the show, after he takes the lead. Previous PD of the show, Im Hyung Taek, left the role to lead the Chinese version of the show. Apparently, the show was being managed by three producer-director, however, Joo Hyung is now the solo leader.

When asked to enlist the strength of the hit SBS show, the Myuk PD instantly replies "Its members" . He says: " Since the show has been on for a long time, the members have great chemistry."

"It's a game variety show and the members have their own characters and that's where the strength of the show comes out. Their relationships have been built over a long time and instead of being exhausted, the relationships have been maturing even more. Given our format, we have to have guests but since the members are our strengths, we are able to show that off nonetheless," he told Soompi.

Revealing his plans for tweaking the classic name tag game, the former Inkigayo producer stated: " Since we've played the game for such a long time, we're not going to play it exactly the same way. Of course we should continue to feature the game since it is something that we have developed through our show. Although we can't say if we will frequently feature the game or not, I can say that we are not purposely not playing the game."

The new entrant concluded his statement with a belief on concentrating and working " on finding a larger frame to fit the show into" .

Running Man is one of the currently longest-running variety program in South Korean history, at six years. The show airs every Sunday at 6:30 pm KST. The permanent cast of the SBS variety show, Running Man, includes Lee Kwang Soo, Song Ji Hyo, Kim Jing Kook, Haha, Ji Suk Jin, Gary and Yoo Jae Suk.
