Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Saturday that injured Adam Lallana will be out of action for upto 16 days.

Lallana picked up a groin injury early in the first half of the Reds' 2-1 win against Swansea City on 1 October. With his side trailing 1-0, the attacking midfielder, who was not able to continue after a tackle from Leon Britton in the 20th minute, was replaced by Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool overcame the deficit in the second half with goals Roberto Firmino and James Milner to register their fourth successive league win of the season and climb to the second spot in the table.

Klopp revealed that Lallana and Croatian defender Dejan Lovren, who also suffered a groin injury, will not available for their national sides during the upcoming international break. However, the 49-year-old expects them to be back for their next Premier League clash against Jose Mourinho's Manchester United on 17 October.

"Adam [Lallana] felt it, tried it again and it did not work. In this moment they have no chance for the national teams," Klopp was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website.

"But hopefully 16 days should be enough to bring them back onto the pitch for the next game.

"Things like this happen – there was no sign of it in the week. The pitch was a little bit wet, of course, so things like this can happen. It is not too nice but nothing else."

The injury thus rule Lallana out of England's 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier matches against Malta and Slovenia on 8 and 11 October, respectively. Notably the 28-year-old scored the winner in his side's Group F fixture against Slovakia in September.

Gareth Southgate, who was appointed as the senior team's caretaker after Sam Allardyce's exit, will name his first England squad on Sunday. The former Middlesbrough manager also confirmed that under-fire captain Wayne Rooney will be part of his plans in the upcoming games.
