The governor of India's southern state of Tamil Nadu Ch Vidyasagar Rao visited the state's chief minister Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who is being treated for infection in a private hospital in Chennai on Saturday.

After the meeting, it was reported that the governor was happy to note that AIADMK supremo was responding to treatment and "progressing well."

"Rao visited the Chief Minister in the ward where she is undergoing treatment. The Governor was happy to note that the Chief Minister is progressing well," said a Raj Bhavan press release.

Jayalalithaa was hospitalised in Apollo Hospital on 22 September after she complained of fever and dehydration.

According to the Times of India, the governor was briefed about the detail of the treatment being given to the CM chief minister's health before the meeting by Apollo Hospitals chairman Pratap C Reddy.

Jayalalithaa is being treated by an expert Critical Care Group, senior cardiologist, senior respiratory physician, senior consultant, infectious diseases, endocrinologist, diabetologist and dieticians.

On 6 October, Apollo Hospitals' sources confirmed that a team of three experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, was flown down to Chennai to assist her further treatment. The team comprises pulmonologist Dr. GC Khilnani, cardiologist Dr. Nitish Naik and anaesthetist Dr. Anjan Trikha and they will closely monitor the chief minister's health and recommend changes if needed, said the hospital source. Dr. Naik was also India's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's personal physician.

The hospital had also brought Dr. Richard John Beale, a UK-based consultant critical care physician, to monitor Jayalalithaa's treatment.

According to the statement, Reddy told the Governor that Jayalalithaa "continues to be under treatment and observation for all vital parameters, respiratory support and passive physiotherapy."

"The Chief Minister is interacting and responding remarkably to the treatment," it said.

The governor was received by a host of AIADMK leaders, including Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, M Thambidurai, Finance Minister O Panneerselvam and Chief Secretary P Ramamohana Rao. S P Velumani, C Vijaya Baskar, adviser to government, Sheela Balakrishnan and health secretary J Radhakrishnan were also present. Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Maharashtra, assumed additional charge of Tamil Nadu last month.

This is the second time that the governor paid a visit to Jayalalithaa. He earlier went to the hospital to enquire about her health on 1 October.
