Overview

Singapore Slammers host Japan Warriors in their first International Premier Tennis League 2016 clash at the Indoor Stadium in Kallang on 6 December.

The Slammers struggled in the Japan leg as they were able to win only one match. They started their campaign on the opening day of the season with a defeat against table-toppers UAE Royals. They also lost a close battle (26-25) to Indian Aces in their second outing. However, they defeated the home team Japan Warriors 27-23 the day before they headed to Singapore for their home leg.

Icon player Serena Williams has not featured in the league yet but she is expected to be back in action for them in Singapore. However, in her absence Kiki Bertens has struggled losing two matches in the Women's singles category. Australian youngster Nick Kyrgios has also failed to inspire the team by losing against Tomas Berdych and Kei Nishikori in the two matches he has featured so far.

On the other hand, the Warriors were completely outplayed at home and have to quickly buckle up to keep their hopes alive. While Nishikori has impressed by winning all of his matches in the tournament, Fernando Verdasco and Jelena Jankovic have to step up.

The Slammers have a good opportunity to regain lost ground at home and they will be confident going into the first game against the opposition, whom they defeated last week.
