Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was recently launched worldwide with a spate of performance upgrades and feature enhancements while the internet is already abuzz with news of numerous hardware and software problems affecting users globally. Some of the noteworthy improvements ported into the new flagship phones include faster processor, better camera and enhanced design.

IBTimes SG explores all the common problems found with the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in this compilation comprising known issues and possible fixes:

Poor battery life

Although battery-life of the iPhone 7 is entirely dependent on the usage pattern, we have posted a bunch of useful tips and tricks in our previous IBTimes SG report. If the issue gets worse after exhausting all possible troubleshooting steps, it is advisable to take your affected device to Apple Store for further diagnosis or unit replacement.

Hissing Sound

Several iPhone 7 users have been complaining about some hissing sound when the device's processor is under peak load, wherein the sound is allegedly originating from the rear of the device near the Apple logo. It is further ascertained that the processor chip resides exactly behind the logo and hence the hissing sound is audible from this location.

Affected users are advised to take their iPhone 7 to the nearest Apple Store for whole-unit replacement, as there is no viable fix for this issue.

iPhone 7 cannot be activated

Some iPhone 7 users could not successfully activate their device during the initial days after its launch, owing to server crashes with peak traffic overloads.

If your repeated attempts did not help in resolving the activation problem, you can try the following steps:

  • Ensure you have installed the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
  • Connect your iPhone to computer and let iTunes complete the activation process.
  • Verify that you are connected to internet via a stable Wi-Fi network instead of 3G/cellular connection, before you reattempt the activation process.
  • Switch off the iPhone and power it on. Just retry the activation process from the scratch.

No mobile-network service

Some iPhone 7 users are reporting "No Service" issue on their mobile-network after disabling the Airplane Mode. Apple is yet to find a fix for this issue.

However, affected users could try reinserting or reseating their SIM card into the slot. If issue persists, try resetting your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus as follows:

  • Hold down the Lock/wake or Power button and the Volume Down button on your iPhone until the device reboots to the Lock screen after progressing through the Apple logo screen.
  • You can now release both the buttons and your iPhone will be hard reset to return to factory settings.

EarPods Remote Stops Working

Some iPhone 7 units are reportedly facing issues with their Lightning to 3.5mm adapter as well as the bundled EarPods remote wherein both the accessories stop working after a brief period of inactivity, when plugged into the iPhone.

Fortunately, Apple has recently rolled out a bug-fix update via iOS 10.0.2 to address this issue. Interested users can go and ahead and update their software using the manual download links provided below:
