iOS 10 - 10.2 jailbreak: Yalu102 betas 2 and 7 released

Avid iOS jailbreakers are in for some great news as the prolific Italian hacker Luca Todesco has just released the Yalu102 beta 2 and beta 7 updates to support a handful of older 64-bit devices including iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Air 2, iPod Touch 6G, iPad mini 4 and a few others. The long wait for a fully-working iOS 10 – 10.2 jailbreak seems to be worth it as all the 64-bit devices are now supported, except for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The major drawback with the first beta version of yalu102 jailbreak was its support was limited to devices with 16k memory-page size, which points to iPhone 6 and above. The advent of betas 2 and 7 seems to have changed the dynamics by adding support for all 4k memory-page devices.

Check out the full list of supported 64-bit devices after the latest beta 7 rollout for yalu102 jailbreak:

  • iPhone 6s and 6s Plus: 10 – 10.2
  • iPhone SE: 10 – 10.2
  • iPhone 5s: 10 – 10.2
  • iPhone 6 and 6 Plus: 10 – 10.2
  • iPad Pro: 10 – 10.2
  • iPad Air : 10 – 10.2
  • iPad mini 2 and 3: 10 – 10.2
  • iPod touch 6th generation: 10 – 10.2
  • iPad Air 2: 10 – 10.2
  • iPad mini 4: 10 – 10.2

The next beta or beta 3 for yalu102 will bring fixes for interfacing with Apple Watch, besides introducing tihmstar's nonceenabler tool as a default patch into the jailbreak. Several other security fixes are also in place to patch the exploits used by yalu102, which will prevent attacks from less reputable Cydia sources and other external malware threats.

Key points to remember

  • As this is a semi-tethered jailbreak, you will need to rejailbreak your iOS device after every reboot. Here's a simple guide to rejailbreak (click here) your iPhone/iPad or iPod Touch after a reboot.
  • Apple has already stopped signing the iOS 10.2 firmware, and hence there is no way going back from iOS 10.2.1 if you have not saved the required SHSH blobs.
  • There is no working jailbreak available for iOS 10.2.1 and you must proceed with caution while installing jailbreak tweaks as a small fumble could force you to restore your device to the latest iOS firmware and deprive you of the golden opportunity to have a jailbreakable firmware at your fingertips.
