Indonesia confirms its first death due to Coronavirus

A 53-year-old women who belong from a different country died in Indonesia due to the COVID-19 or coronavirus on Wednesday, March 11. It is the first recorded death due to the virus in the south-east Asian country.

The woman had been in serious condition since the time she was hospitalized, said an official from the health ministry. "Coronavirus had reduced her immune system, and in turn worsened her pre-existing medical conditions," Mr Achmad added.

The official did not confirm about which country she belongs to or which hospital she died in. He said that her home country's embassy is aware of her death and arranging to send the body back to her country. Eight new cases were confirmed yesterday making the total number of COVID-19 infections to 27 where one died and two recovered in Indonesia.

Recently six people in Indonesia were arrested for spreading misleading information about coronavirus on social media. One of the claims included that Muslim woman flying to Saudi Arabia died suddenly due to the virus at Jakarta's international airport. All six people are accused of violating laws banning the spread of false information.

COVID-19 hit economy around the world

Around the world, the new coronavirus has infected more than 115,000 people while claiming the lives of more than 4,000 people. The virus which originated from the Hubei province of mainland China has spread in over 100 countries worldwide.

The virus has hit the tourism business and economy throughout the world and all the flights, hotels and tourist destinations are facing bleak future in various countries. There are speculations that coronavirus outbreak will cause recession. However, Raghuram Rajan, a former chief economist at the IMF said that in case the weakest links of global business supply chains are hit, it would disrupt the whole chain of business. Globalization in production will be hit badly.
