Heartbroken Chinese engineer marries his own female robot

The couple entered the wedlock at a private ceremony with the robot wearing a formal black suit along with a traditional Chinese face mask.

In a bizarre turn of events, a heartbroken Chinese engineer, Zheng Jiajia, has married a female robot which was created by himself. Zheng is an artificial intelligence expert in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province and has been indulged in developing a robot for a long time.

The robot has been named, Yingying, and weighs about 30 kilograms. "Yingying has the ability to identify Chinese characters and can even speak simple Chinese phrases. But in the near future, Zheng plans to add complex features to Yingying and enable her to do household chores and walk," a report on South China Morning Post stated.

The couple entered the wedlock at a private ceremony with the robot wearing a formal black suit along with a traditional Chinese face mask. Post the ceremony, he carried his wife in his arms. Zheng's family, friends, and colleagues were also present at the ceremony. However, the marriage has not been officially accepted by the authorities.

A source was quoted by Qianjiang Evening News stating that Zheng has been fighting with his family for a long time for their acceptance to wed the robot. It is reported that he has been experiencing bad luck when it comes to pursuing women and hence decided to marry his robot.

Inquirer has revealed that Zheng has previously worked in telecom titan Huawei before jumping to Dream Town, an internet venture startup. While Cnet opined, "The marriage isn't necessarily legal, but the commitment is surely admirable."

At first, netizens believed that the news is just an April Fool Day prank but it turned out to be a serious one. It is learned that Zheng dated Yingying for two months before proposing. Well, the news definitely reminds us of the Korean man who married his pillow with the image of an anime character in 2010. After all, this is not the first time a human is getting married to a "slightly less-than-animated wife."

Well, according to the World Economic Forum, there are 113.5 men for every 100 women in China but it looks like Zheng preferred a wife made from his own nuts and bolts.
