Guinness World Records has put Korean artists EXO and Big Bang in its latest edition for winning the most number of daesang or grand prize.

In the 2018 edition of the book, the two boy bands were cited for winning five daesang each at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), an awards show held yearly.

"South Korean boy bands BIGBANG and EXO have both collected five 'daesang' awards (Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year) at the annual Mnet Asia Music Awards. BIGBANG won Song of the Year in 2007 ('Lies') and 2015 ('Bang Bang Bang') and Artist of the Year in 2008, 2012 and 2015," Guinness World Records wrote.

It said EXO equalled Big Bang's achievement "after landing the Album of the Year prize for the fourth year in a row at the 2016 ceremony, held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on 2 December. In addition to trophies for their albums XOXO (2013), Overdose (2014), EXODUS (2015) and EX'ACT (2016), EXO also bagged Artist of the Year in 2014."

In 2014, former EXO member Luhan made it to the Guinness World Records for gaining "the most comments on a Weibo post." Weibo is the Chinese equivalent of Facebook.

"The singer's football-themed post, originally published on 10 September 2012, had achieved 13,163,859 comments as of 5 August 2014 – almost double that of the second most commented post on the Chinese social network. The post continues to attract comments, with the current figure standing at 13,315,036 at the time of publication of this article," Guinness said.

According to Guinness, Big Bang has won Artist of the Year at the MAMA than any K-pop artist and got nominated four times for Album of the Year in 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2015, once for Song of the Year in 2008 and twice for Artist of the Year in 2007 and 2011.

"BIGBANG (2006–present) and EXO (2012–present) have both achieved multiple chart-topping studio albums, EPs and singles on South Korea's national Gaon music charts, with further success in Japan, Taiwan and the USA," it said.
