A Google official in Singapore reveals expansion plans in Asia-Pacific to promote Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, among others.

A Google official has revealed that the search giant is eyeing to make Asia's technology hub as an "anchored market" for its hardware products. The company's new generation of products has all been confirmed coming to Singapore very soon with Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL leading the pack.

Nanda Ramachandran, global director for Pixel business at Google, tells Channel NewsAsia the California-based company wants to develop Singapore as a hotspot for most, if not all, of its hardware products, just like Australia and India.

Google-branded products confirmed to be sold in the country include mesh router Google Wifi, next-generation phones Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, wireless earphones Pixel Buds,

The arrival of these products in Singapore will help Google to comprehend GTM (go-to-market) strategy, marketing needs and support requirements the entity needs. This way, Google will be able to determine which products to offer in the country and in the Asia-Pacific region, notes Ramachandran.

Singapore will also be home to the regional office of Google for Asia-Pacific. On November 15, Singapore will have first-hand access to a Pixel device for the first time.

Apart from Singapore, the search giant is also expanding in Europe, making Italy and Spain as its bases in the region. The release of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will also take place in the European countries.

Google is notorious when it comes to shipping schedules for smartphones as evidenced in previous releases, so it remains uncertain if it will be able to keep up with the global demands. Despite that, Ramachandran notes he is confident that Google can deliver this time.

By far, only Singtel was able to confirm the availability of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL variants in Singapore. The carrier's price plans will be unveiled on October 27.
