Goblin writer's next drama gets weekend time slot

The casting includes Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Byun Yo Han, and Kim Sarang.

Post the stupendous success of Goblin and Descendants of the Sun, all eyes are on writer Kim Eun Sook and her next project. She has already revealed that her next drama would be titled Mister Sunshine and will be premiered in early 2018 (most likely to be in March).

The latest is that the tvN drama will be aired every Saturdays and Sundays. The casting includes Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Byun Yo Han, and Kim Sarang. Kim was keen to have a male lead who is well-versed in English as an integral part of the story will be set in the United States.

A recent article on Soompi revealed that the drama will be set in the Japanese occupation of Korea in the early 1900s. It will narrate the story of a Korean man who fakes an identity of a soldier in the United States army. After embarking on a battleship during the United States expedition to Korea, he goes back to the Joseon where he falls for a woman from an aristocratic family. Well, that sounds like a lot of action, drama, romance and sentiments.

"This is a topic I've been wanting to write about for a while now. I created a project proposal for this drama a while back: a drama about not independence fighters but actual soldiers from that era. Although it's not recorded anywhere in history, it's something that we all need to know about," Kim was quoted saying in an interview to DramaFever. She also added that since the drama is set before Japan's occupation of Korea, there are no much-recorded history or places to showcase the era—which means the team has to build a whole new setup.

Kim is known for her hit dramas like Lovers in Paris, On Air, Secret Garden, A Gentleman's Dignity, The Heirs, DOTS, and Goblin. For Lee Byung Hun, Mister Sunshine would be his first drama since the record-breaking IRIS in 2009. PD Lee Eung Book will once again collaborate with Kim for the drama.
