Everton striker Wayne Rooney has been reportedly arrested on the suspicion of drink-driving, claims the Mirror.

The Premier League will return after the two weeks of the international break. The 31-year-old announced retirement from international football in August, after becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer with 53 goals.

Rooney was stopped by the police near his home in Cheshire on Thursday night, reports the Mirror. He has been living in his £6m mansion for the past 12 years and has continued to do the same since returning to Goodison Park from Manchester United earlier in the summer transfer window.

It is not the first time he has been involved in a drinking incident. Last November, Rooney crashed a wedding while on international duty with England. This incident took place after the Three Lions registered a victory over Scotland in a World Cup qualifier.

Since rejoining Everton, Rooney has scored two goals in the opening match that saw Ronald Koeman's side beat Stoke City 1-0 and settle for a 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad. However, the Toffees suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the last fixture before the international break.
