Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho blasted his team's lack of intensity during their 2-1 defeat against Fenerbahce in Europa League clash on Thursday.

The Turkish side needed only less than two minutes to convert the first attack of the match into goal as striker Moussa Sow came up with a spectacular overhead kick to beat David de Gea. After going into the break with a 1-0 lead, Jeremain Lens stretched the lead for the hosts in the second half.

All that United could manage was a consolation goal in the 89th minute from captain Wayne Rooney, who put an end to his goal drought after returning to the starting line-up.

While the Red Devils won their home leg against Fenerbahce in October, their Europa League campaign got off to a poor start as they lost their away fixture against Group A leaders Feyenoord. With two more games to be played in the group stages, Mourinho's men, who are third with six points, are in danger of elimination.

Mourinho, who is under fire after United's uninspiring season so far, was antagonised by his own team, which according to him treated Thursday's clash like a pre-season friendly.

"Our problems started in our global attitude. They were playing the Champions League final, we were playing a summer friendly," Mourinho told BT Sport, as quoted by the Reuters.

"We started the game sleeping. They started at 100 mph.

"The referee gives a free kick, they take it in a fast way, we do not react, we lose the second ball and then we do not mark Sow in the box.

"It is not their fault, it is our fault they went 1-0 in front. When we went 2-0 down we had a reaction. But overall we did not deserve anything."

United have been facing a slump in the recent past as they have secured only two wins in their last seven games, which includes four winless league games. Skipper Rooney has scored only twice in 14 appearances he has made this season while their Swede star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has found the back of the net only once in his last 11 games.

Also, on Sunday, for their league game against Swansea City, the eighth-ranked team might as well be without star midfielder Paul Pogba, who limped off the field after reportedly suffering a thigh injury in the first half on Thursday.
