Chinese woman in her 30s jumps off bridge on PIE in suicide attempt

Pictures that circulated on social media showed police attending to the woman lying on the road.

A woman in her thirties jumped off a pedestrian bridge on Singapore's pan Island Expressway (PIE) on Friday in an apparent case of attempted suicide.

The incident happened in the afternoon near the Eunos exit of the PIE towards Changi. It was not clear if the Chinese woman died in the incident. While the police said the case was an attempted suicide, some social media users said the woman died.

Pictures that circulated on social media showed police attending to the woman lying on the road.

"Upon arrival, it was established that a case of attempted suicide had occurred at the said location. The 37-year-old woman was conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital. Police investigations are ongoing," a police statement said.

The Singapore Civil Defence Forces confirmed the woman received multiple injuries. "The SCDF dispatched an ambulance and conveyed a Chinese woman in her 30s to Changi General Hospital. She sustained multiple injuries and the hospital was alerted to be on standby to receive the patient," a statement said.

Facebook group Roads.sg posted the blurred image of a person lying on the road with a caption" saying they are posting the blurred image of the deceased.

Other social media users said the incident created a massive traffic jam on the PIE.
