BTS, Produce 101 top Twitter keywords in Korea

The list came from the analysis of Korean keywords from January 1 to June 30, 2017.

Twitter Korea has released the most mentioned keywords on the social networking site for the first half of the year.

The list came from the analysis of Korean keywords from January 1 to June 30, 2017. It was divided into social, music, and TV and film.

For the music category, BTS is No. 1 on the list. BTS' Twitter account has 6.64 million followers so far. Every single tweet from the BTS account garners at least 100,000 retweets. Its online presence has won BTS the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA).

Second placer EXO is also one of the most popular groups on Twitter. The group has been preparing for its comeback later this month. Recently, the group made its own Twitter account which now has 533,000 followers.

Girl group Red Velvet is third followed by TWICE, I.O.I., Highlight, GFriend, GOT7, Sechs Kies and Lovelyz.

In the TV and film category, the hit Korean survival show "Produce 101" Season 2 is No. 1. The Mnet show lorded over the ratings during its run from April to June this year.

The show has produced the boy band Wanna One, which will debut in August.

Placing second is tvN's "New Journey to the West" followed by movie "Your Name," SBS' "Fantastic Duo 2," MBC drama "Missing 9," JTBC's "Ask Us Anything," tvN's "The Last 48 Hours of My Life," Mnet's "High School Rapper," MBC's variety show "Infinite Challenge" and JTBC's "Let's Eat Dinner Together."

In the social category, the Korean presidential elections and keywords associated with former president Park Geun-hye topped the list.

"Presidential election" is No. 1, reported Soompi, followed by keywords "Moon Jae In," "Blacklist," "polls," "search and seizure," "Park Geun Hye," "arrest warrant," "fine dust," sexual minority," and "murder case."
