While there is much anticipation about the next iPhone that is likely to be called the iPhone 8, Huawei is all set to take on Apple's planned development by launching an even better offering. Dubbed the Huawei Mate 10, the new smartphone by the Chinese giant is touted to be "even more powerful" than the next Apple flagship.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu highlighted the competitive features of the Mate 10 in an interview with Bloomberg. "The Mate 10, which has much longer better life with a full-screen display, quicker changing speed, better-photographing capability and many other features that will help us compete with Apple," Yu told the news agency.

Even though the executive's statement suggests a promising presence of the upcoming Huawei smartphone, it is yet to be surfaced in reality. Similarly, Apple hasn't so far revealed any details about the iPhone 8. So the present comparison is between two devices that have no physical existence.

That being said, Huawei is quite active to expand its position in the smartphone world. The Shenzhen-based company already leads the Chinese smartphone market. According to a recent report by market research firm Canalys, Huawei shipped 23 million smartphone units in the second quarter -- competing against Apple that shipped 15 million iPhones in the same quarter.

The Huawei Mate 10 is likely to enhance the company's current position. The smartphone would be unveiled sometime around the launch of the new iPhone -- presumably in September. It is expected to sport a bezel-less display and a dual-camera setup, which both are among the top trending features.

Other contenders in arena

Huawei is not the one company that is preparing to take on the iPhone 8 that is the 10-anniversary model by the Cupertino company. Samsung is also in the race with its Galaxy S8 series that features an Infinity Display technology. Additionally, the Korean giant is reportedly in development to launch the next Galaxy Note ahead of the arrival of the future iPhone.

Some of the recent reports suggest an all new design for the next iPhone. It is rumoured to have a front panel -- entirely covered with an OLED display and without a Touch ID-enabled home button. The iPhone 8 is also presumed to have wireless charging support and run on iOS 11 out of the box.
