Top seed Andy Murray faces stiff test on Saturday as he faces familiar foe Juan Martin del Potro in the Men's singles R32 at Roland Garros Stadium.

The world number one came back from behind after being a set down to win his second-round match 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3) against Slovakian Martin Klizan yesterday. On the other hand, Del Potro had to console a disappointed Nicolas Almagro after the former retired with an injury when the two players had shared a set each and a game each in the third set of their second-round match yesterday.

Despite having a 9-3 head-to-head advantage over Del Potro, Murray has to be wary of the 2009 US Open champion, who won their last meeting at 2016 Davis Cup semi-final 6-4, 5-7, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-fought five-setter. The Argentine is heading into the tournament on the back of some mixed results on clay.

While Del Potro reached the quarter-final in Rome beating the likes of higher-ranked Grigor Dimitrov ana Kei Nishikori before falling to Novak Djokovic, the former world number four exited Lyon as early as in the second round. Lack of consistency has been letting him down, but the Argentine has shown flashes of brilliance and has stunned top-ranked stars since his return to court in February last year after a 11-month-long injury layoff.

With a strong forehand and ability to hit booming serves, Del Potro has the game to trouble Murray, who has been struggling to find form on court this season. Barring his run to the semi-final in Barcelona, in which he lost to Dominic Thiem, the Scot has faced early exits in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome.

Having survived a scare against Klizan in his previous round, Murray needs to be at his defensive best if he is to stand a chance of emulating his last season's run in Paris.
