The court heard that the 43-year-old woman from Tampines threw the boy out of her ninth floor flat.

A woman who killed her 7-year-old autistic son by pushing him out of the flat's kitchen window has been sentenced to five years in prison in Singapore.

The court heard that the 43-year-old woman from Tampines threw the boy out of her ninth floor flat thinking he as the cause of her distress and marital disorder.

The court has barred the publication of the name of the woman and the child. The woman, who was suffering from major depressive disorder when the crime took place, had been originally charged for murder.

She pleaded guilty to culpable homicide in court on Friday.

The woman, who worked as a manager at a cosmetics company, had been diagnosed with a mental disorder in 2008 and had a relapse around the time the crime took place in September 2014.

"I hope you recover well and that you can return home much stronger emotionally to rebuild your family and life," the judge told her, according to Channel News Asia.

The report said the husband of the woman had written letters requesting leniency for her.
