Overview

India and China will battle for the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy glory at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium on 5 November.

When the two teams met in the last match of the group stages, it was China who emerged victorious after scoring a late winner. Firday's loss, which was also India's first in the tournament, meant the team was pushed to the second spot and were tied on points (7) with the third-placed Japan.

However, Vandana Katariya's side were able to make it to the final after having a batter goal difference than Japan. While China will have the edge over the Indians in the final, India will be boosted by their ability to come back strong from grim situations.

Even on Friday, after India conceded two early second half goals, they were able to buckle up and nullify the deficit in the last ten minutes. However, China were able to maintain composure and steal the winner in the 58th minute of the game.

Indian coach Neil Hawgood believes the team has done its homework well and is confident of his strategy working well in the big final.

"We are quite confident about the final. We have to stick to the plan at all times. China are very fast on the counter attack, and we need to prepare better for that off the ball," Hawgood told the Press Trust of India, as quoted by The Indian Express.

"I think if we can control the game for longer periods than we did tonight and not turn over the ball with simple basic mistakes, we will be able to control China a little bit better tomorrow."

Both teams have had problems with clearing the final hurdle in the previous editions. While India lost the summit clash against Japan in 2013, China went down against South Korea in the final of the 2011 tournament.

It would be important for both the units to assess Friday's performance and come up with a better show.
