After having a good opening at the box office, Dhanush's Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 has been hit by piracy. The Soundarya Rajinikanth-directorial that was released on Friday has been leaked online with various website offering options to download or stream for free.
Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, also known as VIP 2, garnered mixed reviews from its audience, but it seemed that the planned pre-release promotions had saved the movie after it made an approximate amount of over Rs 4.5 crores on its opening day. That eventually helped the film to beat the record of Dhanush's previous film Kodi that had collected over Rs 3.5 crore on the first day. But, now the online leak would surely take a toll on the film's business at the box office.
Piracy has become the new trend after the government has listed downloading of movies from the web as a punishable offence. Not only Sandalwood, piracy has been looming large over other film industries including Bollywood. A few days back, Jab Harry Met Sejal starring Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma was reportedly leaked online within 24 hours of its theatrical release. Though many strict measures and policies have been implemented by governments, none of them has been successful in curbing the menace.
There have been instances when a few movies fell prey to online piracy even before they were released in the theatres. Over the years, it has been noted that the piracy rate has increased manifold with the rise in internet penetration across the globe and India.
VIP 2 is the second directorial venture of Soundarya Rajinikanth, the daughter of superstar Rajinikanth. The film, starring Dhanush and Bollywood actress Kajol, is a to the 2014 Tamil-language film Velaiilla Pattadhari. Apart from the two key actors, VIP2 also stars Amala Paul, Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani, who were there in the first installment as well.
The first part of VIP 2 dealt with Raghuvaran (Dhanush) overcoming all the hurdles to find his dream job and the obstacles that he faced after started working was the highlight of the flick. However, this second part is all about his life after marriage.
