Singapore: Scoot, Emirates planes collide at Changi Airport, no injuries reported

The authorities say a part of Emirates aircraft's wing was damaged due to the impact of the collision.

A Scoot aircraft and an Emirates flight collided with each other in the early hours of Thursday at Changi Airport Terminal 1. A Scoot spokesman said flight TZ188, bound for Tianjin, China, was preparing for departure when a wing from the aircraft came into contact with a wing from a Emirates plane. A part of Emirates aircraft's wing was damaged due to the impact of the collision that took place at around 1:40 am.

All 303 passengers and 11 crew were safe and put on a replacement aircraft for a rescheduled flight at around 6am. The damaged plane is undergoing repairs. According to reports, the Emirates Airbus 380, flight EK405, was bound for Dubai.

"We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the incident," the Scoot spokesman told The Straits Times.

She added: "Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused. However, the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance."

The Changi Airport Group (CAG) also issued an official statement on the incident: "We have confirmed that an on-ground incident happened early this morning between Emirates EK405 that was bound for Dubai and Scoot TZ188 which was bound for Tianjin. A wing of each aircraft came into contact as they were respectively preparing for departure. There were no injuries."

"CAG is investigating the incident and are working with the authorities on this," the statement added.
