A 53-year-old man was fined $1,000 and banned from driving all classes of vehicles for three months on Wednesday after he abruptly braked thrice in front of the cabby. According to reports, he was charged with committing a rash act to endanger life.

Mohamed Dzamrin Ahmad, a crane operator, apparently braked three times as he wanted to demonstrate the way the cabby had allegedly been driving.

The accused have admitted to rash driving by abruptly changing from left lane to the center lane of Sembawang Road, without any prior signal. Dzamrin also admitted that he braked abruptly thrice in front of Tan Heng Kiat without any reason at 7.23 pm on May 9, 2016.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Wee Hao, Dzamrin was driving behind Tan's taxi when a taxi in front of Tan braked abruptly, which eventually forced Tan to apply the brake. As a result of this, Dzamrin also braked.

When the 54-year-old cabby stopped to check whether Dzamrin had hit the back of his taxi, he was reprimanded by Dzamrin for not driving properly. But Tan drove off.

Soon after this, Dzamrin sped to overtake Tan by moving into the left lane. After overtaking the cab, Dzamrin again took the middle lane abruptly in front of Tan and applied his three times.

The Deputy Public Prosecutor said that Dzamrin had applied the brakes unnecessarily as there was no other vehicle close to his car.

Dzamrin could have been sentenced up to 12 months in jail and/or fined up to $5,000 for committing the rash act. He has had eight composition fines, mostly for speeding.
