Details of the incident

The incident happened on Monday evening when a rashly driven car hit the small child. A 37-year-old woman was also injured in the accident. Soon after the incident, the police was alerted, and two ambulances were sent to the scene by the Singapore Defence Force. The girl and woman were rushed to the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Unfortunately, the girl was pronounced dead.

It is believed that the woman, who got injured in the accident, was the child's domestic helper.

Driving concerns in Singapore continue

Even though Singapore is known for its law-abiding citizens, car accidents in the city-state are quite common. Continuous awareness programs and speed restrictions have considerably reduced the number of fatalities due to car crashes in the country. Even though the number of fatalities has reduced compared to those of the previous years, there have been more accidents that have resulted in injuries.

The enhanced safety precautions have reduced the number of accidents resulting in injury or death by 4.4 percent since 2010.

It should be noted that the drivers in Singapore are considered more prone to crashes when compared to their counterparts in wealthy countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan.
