Singapore: Elderly man dies after being run over by bus in Toa Payoh

The victim, who was in his late 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A pedestrian died after an SBS Transit bus ran over him along Toa Payoh Lorong 6 outside the bus interchange on Thursday morning.

Police said the 36-year-old bus driver has been arrested in relation to the case. They also added that investigations are ongoing.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they received a call requesting for ambulance assistance at around 6.19 am. The victim, who was in his late 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene by parademics.

SBS Transit expressed their grief and said that they are assisting the police with the investigations.

"Our immediate priority is to get in touch with the family of the deceased and to render assistance. We are also assisting police with their investigations," Tammy Tan, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, SBS Transit told AFP.

She further added: "We apologise to affected commuters and motorists for the delays and inconvenience caused."
