Singapore actress Rui En fined $700 for careless driving

Singaporean television actress Rui En was fined $700 after she pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving.

The 35-year-old actress failed to control her car and hit a parked motorcycle at a Clementi car park on April 12. No one was injured but the motorcycle and the car were slightly damaged in the accident.

The prosecution had sought a fine of $600 to $800 and to disqualify her driving license for three to four months. However, during sentencing District Judge Carol Ling was not inclined to impose a ban of driving.

She noted that there was no element of drink driving in this case. She also said that there was no injury, "only slight damaged property".

Rui En could have been jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to S$1,000 for careless driving.

After paying her fine, Rui En said that she was really relieved that now she would be able to put this down and move forward. "I will bear full responsibility for my mistake, and I will be cautious not to let this thing happen again from now on," Rui En told AFP.

She also apologized for creating inconvenience to other people like her company Hype Records, friends and her family.

Just before leaving in a white Honda Civic car, the actress said: "I can just say, I am very very sorry, and moving on, I really really hope to improve, and I really hope to come back better, stronger and give you guys a new Rui En".
