Singapore's Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on 1 January that about 860,000 Housing Board (HDB) flat owners will receive the next instalment of the GST voucher which helps to reduce utilities bills.

According to Channel news Asia the MOF said that the U-Save rebate enables people, who live in 1- and 2-room HDB flats, to save up to 4 months of utilities bills. Moreover, these vouchers also help to refund the bill up to 2 months for people who occupy the 3- and 4-room HDB flats.

The coupon will help 1-and 2-room, 3-room, 4-room and 5-room houses to get a refund of $260, $240, $220 and $200 respectively. Not only this, the owners of executive/multigenerational houses rebated $180.

Last year, about 840,000 Singaporean HDB households received the GST Voucher in the month of July. This year, the ministry announced that the eligible people will soon receive GST vouchers depending on their HDB flat type.

On 8 November, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) announced that HDB flat owners who will have to pay lower or no poetry tax from 2017 and can save up to 13.1 and 51 per cent.
